Direct TV Wiring Question?
After coming home from a vacation, our Direct TV will only work on Satellite 2, not on Satellite 1. I called Direct TV and said that the problem was most likely in the wiring (satellite to unit) and will send a repair person out on Saturday for . I would love to fix this for free (with your help).
Any thoughts on the most likely place where there would be a wiring problem? We have had some strong winds lately but all wires appear to be intact upon visual inspection.
Thanks, in advance, for any help you can provide
I did switch the wires and only one works. Also, I did a hard reset and it did not resolve problem.
Answer:
It sounds like you did a good job so far, make sure that there is nothing between the receiver and the dish. You may find a ground block, if so try to replace it with a barrel connector and also make sure you have good connections on the LNB and all other locations you find an end. The copper on the connector should stick out past the “nutt” end about 1/8th inch. if the connector pulls off the cable easy, go to radio shack and buy some RG6 twist on connectors and replace all that you think are bad. I am not sure exactly what type of set-up you have but this is a good start. most of the time this is a result of a bad connector. the only other thing is that possibly RG59 cable was used and does not always hold up to satellite signal,or,you may find a break in the cable upon closer investigation. Just remember this, the cable going from the dish direct to the receiver and you will have no problems. you cannot mess anything up unless you move the dish. And one last thing , IF you have MORE THAN ONE SATELLITE DISH for this system pay close attention to which cables go where at the switch. I hope this works for you.
1).Make sure you do a hard reset of your actual receiver before you do anything else. Unplug it for a minute and then plug it back in.
2).Try switching your wires on the back of your set…are you getting a signal with one line and not the other, that would be a sure fire way to figure out if it is in the wiring or if it is just a software issue.
Very often a reset will take care of this problem.
